I was thrilled when Spiritbath posted this video of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (also known by the locals as Topsail Turtle Hospital) because I’ve been there! I even have the same t-shirt that the people in the video are wearing. 🙂

It was an amazing experience to go on the tour through the hospital and learn about all the turtles who are rehabbing there. The turtles stay there for several months, some for YEARS, because their metabolisms are so slow it takes them a very long time to heal.

These folks are doing fantastic work. And the people of Topsail Island and surrounding areas are big supporters of the hospital and the sea turtles. Check out the video of these good folks releasing one of their patients back into the ocean.

Next time I go back to North Carolina I’ll be sure to pay a visit to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Have you ever been to a turtle hospital?
